Beans: Fiori blend by LowDown. Grinder: Sunbeam EMO 480 @ 14 grind setting. The Breville Cafe Roma is a very entry level machine but you can get some decent results. Only criticism is the slowness in frothing milk. Bro tips: always use freshly roasted and ground beans, don’t overfill the basket, use a light tamp only and ideally let the machine heat up for a good 5 minutes before use. You can also pre-heat the portafilter by running some water through it without the basket in it (some risk of too much heat on the coffee prior to extraction) – and heat your cups as well by pouring boiling water in them and sitting them on the heating tray.

This is my first video, making an espresso Macchiato with my Rancilio Silvia. Unfortunately I managed to stand in front of the camera while frothing the milk! The beans used to make the espresso are from Campos, in Sydney. The crema was nice and dark with lots of mottling – unfortunately the camera doesn’t show that too well!

Quick guide on how to make a low budget, good quality espresso. I’ve used a Bialetti Elegance Venus. It works the same as all other moka expresses. Tips: – Use finely ground coffee (grinder is not required) – Use quality coffee (I use Gayo Blue Mountain in this video) – Gas-flame is better, but I can only cook on electricity – Tight is tight! It does have rubber seals. – Size is everything. You can’t make more or less espresso than the size of the unit. This unit is for 2 espresso cups. Enjoy!
